The Federation standard policy of answering all distress beacons leads us into a trap on our next jump, unfortunately. Two more laser volleys are enough to reduce the ship to scrap. Obviously cowed by our military acumen, the remaining Mantis start firing up their FTL - but the pilot has moved to attempt to repair their weapon systems, delaying the jump. We've taken hits to our medbay and shields, so Steven and Kletzkin head to the Medbay to repair it and heal their wounds, and CY Heng and RabidBob return to their stations. Our plan works and the invaders are dead within moments.

Meanwhile, we target one missile at the Mantis gunnery system and aim our lasers at the teleporter, in order to prevent them from beaming back to their ship. Steven, Kletzkin, CY Heng, and RabidBob move into the next room ready to repel boarders, while we vent the airlock hoping to whittle down some of the enemy's health. Two Mantis warriors teleport into our starboard airlock. Our next jump takes us face-to-mandible with a Mantis fighter, compete with teleporter. We arrive to find a Mantis slave mining colony, which we uncharacteristically decide not to emancipate.

Discretion being the better part of not getting eaten, we're going to try and skirt around as many ships as possible, and so head for the unoccupied sector. The middle and bottom icons also have red rings around them, indicating an environmental hazard as well (a sun beacon and an asteroid field respectively). Thanks to our long-range scanners, we can tell which beacons will have ships in them - the ones marked with the icon. Of course, the noble crew of the VGO Creme Brulee has no truck with slaver scum and besides we can't afford their prices so we choose to attack, hoping to force the scum to surrender their captives rather than be blown to smithereens: While waiting for our FTL drive to charge, however, we are approached by a. The jump after that pits us against a rebel fighter, which meets a similar fate, before we jump to the Long-Range beacon which we can use to jump to the next sector. Our next jump takes us to a fake distress signal emitted by a treacherous Rebel Rigger, which proves no match for us.

I also take this opportunity to upgrade our doors and sensors this will help if we get boarded as intruders will have to break doors down, and the upgraded sensors will let us see what the enemy crew are doing. Steven just volunteered to be our head of security, which is an unofficial title but mostly involves tearing boarders apart using his barbed claws and acid spit.
