Serato will continue to provide support for SSL until 2015, but no new features or upgrades will be implemented. Serato DJ, from now on, will incorporate SSL’s DVS technology, becoming a system that allows both hands-on DJing and synched beat-matching, and promising a “less cluttered” interface with new effects and more. In a new video released by Serato, the company’s CEO Sam Gribben claims that trying to balance SSL with Serato DJ – a merge of SSL and Serato Itch launched three years ago – has become increasingly uncomfortable, and SSL will take the hit as a result of the company turning all its focus on Serato DJ.
Serato launched SSL 10 years ago, and the years since have seen it become one of DJing’s most popular tools – in short, it allows DJs to mix from their computer (and utilise loops, along with the rest of the perks of virtual DJing) through replica 12″ platters on turntables or discs for CDJs, meaning that – crucially, for many users – it retains the feel of traditional DJing. The Rane Serato Scratch Live is no longer being made, its actually been replace with its upgraded version the Rane SL 2.
In other words, the tool lets you convert turntables into a proper interface for digital music files. Two new mixers-the Rane Sixty-Four and Pioneer DJM-900SRT-will be available starting next month, complete with the capability of utilzing DVS to control Serato DJ. Serato does not plan to leave DJs completely hanging, however, and has announced that DVS (the technology which allows turntables and CDJs to control Serato) will be available in new editions of Serato DJ, which existing SSL users can upgrade to for free.
SERRATO SCRATCH LIVE UPDATE
While Serato plans to no longer update Scratch Live (or SSL), user support for the program will be available up until 2015, which includes fixing any major bugs or compatibility issues that may occur down the line.
Serato has announced that it will no longer issue updates to Scratch Live, the company’s widely popular, decade-old software which has allowed for DJs to control their digital music libraries using the traditional tools of turntables and CDJs.
